What makes marriage successful?
Without fail, the answer everyone always gives is,“COMMUNICATION!”
But when people say, “A marriage needs good communication,” they’re really talking about a bunch of different skills that need to be mastered:
- How do I express my emotions in a way that doesn’t make my partner shut down?
- How do I get my partner to open up and share their feelings honestly with me?
- How do we talk about things that are hard?
- How can we change the way we disagree with each other so we’re not so cruel?
- How do we talk about things like sex or money that make us uncomfortable?
- How do I help my partner feel better when I’ve hurt them but haven’t done anything wrong?
- How do I bring things up when I don’t feel like I’m being treated fairly?
- How do I get good at asking for what I want?
The list of ways we can demonstrate “good communication” goes on and on…
So if good communication is the key to a great marriage, you’ve got a lot to master… which begs the question. How the heck do you learn to become a great communicator?
It’s not something they teach you in school. Your parents might have taught by example – some good, some bad. Maybe you’ve read a book or two…
But the rest of your communication training has probably been trial and error.
Learn From The Pros
If you’re sick of feeling disconnected. If there are things you’ve been wanting to say, but haven’t known how to find your words. If you feel like your partner has been withdrawn. If you feel like you’ve been walking on eggshells. If you want a better sex life, but have no idea how to even bring it up, let alone what to say after you do… this is for you.
