The Spring Festival, or simply, Chinese New Year, is the largest and most important annual festival celebrated by Chinese. This year, Chinese New Year’s Day falls on Friday, February 16, 2018, marking the beginning of the year of the Dog. With no exception, Chinese people in Utah partake in the Chinese New Year celebration along with billions of others around the world.
Every year, the Utah Chinese New Year Celebration Committee (UTCNYCC), consisting of more than 20 participating organizations, presents a magnificent performance for local citizens and Chinese communities, to commemorate this significant holiday by inviting a variety of performers from Utah and sometimes from other places, even from Asia.
This year, the Utah Chinese New Year Celebration Performances (Utah Chunwan) will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Cottonwood High School (5717 South, 1300 East, Murray, Utah 84121). There will be lion dance before the show. The program will include modern music, Chinese folk songs and dances, traditional Chinese musical performances, Chinese Kungfu, acrobatics and many more.
This event is sponsored by the Salt Lake County ZAP program, eCity Fresh, First Utah Bank, University of Utah Confucius Institute, APAPA-Utah, Future Net, and many local organizations and friends from and outside of the Chinese communities.
This year’s celebration is open to the public, and once-again with free admission. It is the time that thousands of people get together and share the value and tradition that they love, and a good chance for people to better understand Chinese traditional culture. The organizing committee invites everyone to experience this annual cultural phenomenon.
